PEDIATRICIANS
(Compiled by Glen and Christy Hartless)
Our two children have always gone to Dr. Barnett. (Her
office is near the White Oak Sears). Solo practice, always a
same-day appointment for illness, rarely a wait in the waiting room.
Usually participates in the main insurance plans.
Bernstein, Paxton, Witkin & Feldman Tamara Buckley, Nurse Practitioner)
We'd give a rave review to this practice. They've got
a range of styles and personalities to match anyone's needs. We've been blessed
to only have to see them for well child or very minor illness visits, so I'll
admit I don't know how they address chronic or sustained illnesses or
developmental problems.
Deconcini, Parker, and Wiltrout 2301 Old
Recommendation No. 1: We've been using Pam Parker's
practice in
Recommendation No. 2: We really like our doctor, Lisa
Wiltrout. Office is located one or two blocks off
Recommendation No. 3: We have used Dr. Denise
DeConcini for almost 10 years now. She is fabulous. Not as close as she used to
be (the office moved a couple of years ago--very close to the Home Depot on Old
Columbia Pike), but we thought enough of her practice to follow her out.
Ray Coleman 301-468-9225 We've used a practice that we love for 36 years. Started
with the father, Alan Coleman, then he was joined by his son Ray. They have
morning call hour for general questions, someone is
always on call, they're very responsive, very up on the latest, supportive of
alternative therapies,
etc. Also excellent with adolescents, which isn't your
current need, but will be before you know it. The only problem is location:
White Flint Mall.
Children First
301-681-6000
We have two kids, and love Dr. Solomon at Children
First Pediatrics. Dr. Datch also very good and have heard good things about Dr.
Fischer, though have never seen her ourselves.
Childrens’ Pediatric Associates
We alternate between Drs. Shapiro and Beard, depending
on who's on that day but have seen the other two doctors there as well and like
them too. Very thorough each visit, whether well or sick. The only complaint I
have is sometimes the wait is excessive, but not all the time. Dr Beard was in
the Washingtonian best doctor list two years ago and that's how I found her.
Children's Medical Care Center 14th and Kennedy
streets 291-0147
Though we have only been there once, the staff was
helpful and patient and the doctor was very good with our kids. I especially
appreciate not having to drive to the suburbs to find decent care for the
children.
The Pediatric Care Center
I am a pediatrician myself, although I am currently
not practicing, however, my daughter has a wonderful pediatrician. His name is
Paul Weiner and he is one of six excellent pediatricians at The Pediatric Care
Center in
Judith Ratner Childrens', Foggy Bottom.
We take our 2-year-old to Dr. Ratner at Childrens'
Foggy Bottom. She is excellent and we have no complaints, except for the wait,
which seems to be a consistent problem with all practices. All of the doctors
used to be associated with
Drs. Shapiro, Perez, Beard,
We've only been there a couple of times, but they seem
good so far.
Woodside Pediatrics 301-565-9600
We particularly like the laid back style of Dr. Adams,
but her partner in the business is also quite good.
